1800| Foundation of Mayser in Ulm
Leonhard Mayser founded the small hat maker's “Hutmacherey Mayser” on 27 September 1800. In the following years Mayser becomes a hat factory with several production sites in Germany. Diversification enables the Mayser group of companies with four business divisions - head coverings, foam technology, moulding technology and safety technology – to develop.
To the history of the Mayser Group
1978| Foundation of the safety technology business division
1978 marks the beginning of the success story of the safety technology business division. Mayser engineers develop an electrically conductive fabric which forms the basis for sensors to cover a surface area. In cooperation with the BIA (Institute for Occupational Safety and Health), Mayser develops the first electric Safety Mat.
1980| Production of the first tactile sensors
The first Mayser Safety Mats are produced in series. Soon Safety Edges, Safety Bumpers, Control Units and Signal Transmission Systems are added to the range of products.
1988 | BIA Test certificate for Mayser Safety Mats and takeover of the SICK Safety Edge
In 1988, Mayser is the first company in Germany to receive a test certificate for its Safety Mats from the BIA. At the same time, the takeover of the SICK AG Safety Edge range makes the company the largest German manufacturer of tactile protective devices.
1990| Foundation of Mayser France
1992| Mayser Safety Technology for passenger cars, buses and trains
By miniaturisating the Safety Edges, Mayser sets new standards: For the first time, Safety Edges can be used as Anti Pinch Sensors on power windows in passenger cars. They also protect people from trapping dangers in the doors of public transport vehicles.
1992| Foundation of Mayser Spain
1998| Mayser takes over Elge Sicherheitselektronik GmbH
2002| Launch of Mayser ultrasonic sensors and foundation of Mayser Rožňava (Slovakia)
In Rožňava, a production facility employing 100 people is set up.
2004| Mayser acquires the Safety Systems division of Wampfler AG
The takeover of the Wampfler ‘Safety Systems’ division makes Mayser a top supplier of Safety Edges - from miniature Safety Edges to break contact and opto-electronic sensors.
2005| First application for the Mayser Transponder System on the Munich underground
The underground railway carriages of the Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (MVV) are retrofitted with the innovative Mayser wireless signal transmission system. The system has provided reliable Obstacle Detection and Drag Detection since then.
2006| Innovation award for the TRS Transponder System
Mayser is presented the innovation award of the International Trade Fair for Roller Blinds, Gates & Sun Protection (R+T) 2006 for its Signal Transmission System TRS based on transponders.
2008| Foundation of Mayser USA
To further improve the position with international customers, especially the international automobile groups, Mayser sets up a new location in Southfield, Michigan in 2008.
2009| Launch of sensors for seat occupancy detection (SBE)
Mayser launches a sensor for seat occupancy detection (SBE) for passenger cars. The SBE detects if a vehicle seat is occupied and, connected to the Seat Belt Reminder (SBR), it reminds those in the vehicle of the obligation to fasten seat belts.
